About

Fret Not Guitar Repair opened in April of 1998, shortly after the closing of Isle of Wight Instruments in Smithfield Virginia where I apprenticed with late Bill Colgan and his staff. Isle of Wight Instruments undoubtedly had the reputation of being "the" place to take instrument repairs and people from all over the country trusted us with their treasured instruments. Desiring to continue the tradition Bill had begun I committed to opening my own repair shop shortly after Bill's death.

For more than 15 years now I have been repairing fretted instruments for local pickers, recording musicians and clients throughout the U.S. and abroad.  Although going it alone has placed great demand on my time, I still prefer the quality control that comes from being the one doing the repairs. I love what I do and it is readily apparent in the care I show for my clients guitars, basses, mandolins and other fretted instruments.
